This article discusses the current and on-going crisis of Schengen in the context of the economic and financial crisis in Europe, the uprisings in Northern Africa and the crisis of legitimacy after the 3rd of October 2013 of Lampedusa. The irreversibility and openness of the Schengen process is demonstrated with two examples, Frontex/Eurosur and Dublin/Eurodac. We end with a discussion of the current developments of the European Border Regime.
